The team of Don Bosco IMAGE was invited to Korr, a desolate desert in the Kaisut Desert, Kenya to make a movie about the place. Earlier the crew was invited to Kakuma, Kenya the refugee camp bordering Sudan.
Korr and the whole of the northeastern region of Kenya, most of which coming under the Marcebit County, have been suffering from a very severe drought which has destabilized and devastated the lives of the people. The wells and lagas (rivers) have dried. Consequently, mothers have nothing to cook, children suffer from malnutrition and drop out of school… Hungry and dehydrated they fall prey to a host of ailments some of which one cannot even mention due to human delicacy. Water is essential for all human activities, indeed for all life. In extreme cases, the manyattas even begin to break down, resulting in mass displacement of the people.
The video I was hungry and you gave me to eat, tells the sad but challenging story of a mentally challenged girl in Korr.
